“Halifax’s Ruth Minnikin comes in. She’s sweet, polite and wholesome and it’s hard to imagine that she’s ever stolen so much as one-cent candy. Her music is the same: soft, poetic and stripped down. Minnikin’s guitar and her bare-boned backing band fit right in with a typical Dakota Tavern sound. The band, at first only a multi-instrumentalist (Ida Nilsen) playing the tambourine and piano, and then, for some added twang, a banjo player (Ryan Levecque), nicely supported Minnikin’s vocals.
